(Harlan) wins six First Place Blue Ribbons in the 2005
American Pie Council (APC)/Crisco National Pie Championships.

Bakeries, Inc. won six First Place Blue Ribbons in the
2005 American Pie Council/Crisco National Pie Championships.
The championships, which were held in conjunction with
the Great American Pie Festival, took place on April
22nd in Kissimmee, Florida.
Each year, the number of entries in
the Crisco National Pie Championships has grown. Three
hundred pies were entered in this year’s Commercial
Division, up from last year’s two hundred eighty-five.
Entries in the Amateur Division totaled one hundred
ninety-one, more than doubling last year’s entries
of eighty pies.
“The Championships and Festival
are definitely gaining in publicity and popularity,”
said Jeff Owens, Manager of Research & Development
(Sweet Goods) of Harlan after his participation in this
year’s competition.
Harlan’s Blueberry, Chocolate
Cream, Coconut Cream, and No Sugar Added (NSA) Apple
pies placed first in their flavor categories in the
Family group of the Commercial Division. In the Premium
and Premium NSA groups, Harlan’s Coconut Cream
and Lemon Meringue Pies each placed first in their categories
respectively. In addition to the Pie Championships,
Harlan offered samples of its Coconut Cream and Lemon
Meringue pies for tasting in the Great American Pie
Festival’s Never Ending Pie Buffet on April 23rd
and 24th.
