The American Institute
of Baking awards a “SUPERIOR” Rating to
Kyger Bakery Products,
LLC (Kyger) for second consecutive year.

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA
- Harlan Bakeries, Inc. is proud to announce that its
Kyger facility, located at 7575 Georgetown Road in Indianapolis,
has been awarded its second consecutive Superior rating
by the American Institute of Baking (AIB) as a result
of its annual food safety audit. This new facility received
its first audit late in 2004, and just recently completed
new expansion projects prior to the audit. New processing
equipment was added and the warehouse received a new
layout design.
The American Insistute of Baking performs
annual audits for member facilities based on their published
AIB Consolidated Standards for Food Safety. The Standards
for Food Safety are available for food processors' usage,
in order to evaluate the food safety risks and compliance
levels to the criteria in the Standards. The Standards
contain the criteria and rating methods used to assign
numerical scores to the facility. Member facilities
are auditied and then scored in five main areas: Adequacy
of Food Safety Program, Pest Control, Operational Practices,
Maintenance for Food Safety and Cleaning Practices.
The facility being inspected is given a total score
and a rating based on that score.
The audit process can be very challenging,
but is viewed by Harlan as a highly positive educational
experience for both its management and staff. Employees
are actively engaged in training to maintain AIB standards
and procedures, and are empowered to participate in
various parts of the evaluation process. Harlan takes
pride in its Superior status and recognizes the value
of these efforts both in meeting internal as well as
external customer expectations, and also by exceeding
them as frequently as possible. Harlan also recognizes
the hard work its employees have put forth to maintain
superior practices in addition to managing the major
growth the bakery has encourtered over the past year.
